Terms of use

Last updated: 3 October 2026

These terms apply to the BeaconStep app and website. By creating a company account or joining a quest you accept them.

On this page

1. Who we are

BeaconStep is run by DevFIRE WEB SRL, Corvinilor 64, Ap. 1, 440080 Satu Mare, Satu Mare County, Romania.

Contact: support@beaconstep.app.

2. The service

BeaconStep lets organizers create real-world quests and lets teams play them with their phones. In later versions the app will check quest steps with the in-app camera, the location and the time, and can use AI to draft quests and to suggest whether a photo matches a step.

3. Accounts

  • Organizers sign in with an email code. Keep access to your email safe; you are responsible for what happens in your company account.
  • Players need no account. They join with a quest code and a display name.
  • Company and consumer quests are for people aged 16 or older.

4. Fair play and safety

  • Take photos only with the in-app camera, of the thing the step asks for.
  • Respect other people, private property, traffic rules and local laws while playing. Do not photograph people who do not want to be photographed.
  • You stay responsible for your own safety. Quests are played at your own risk; organizers choose safe places and suitable steps for their group.
  • Do not upload unlawful, hateful or sexual content. We and the organizer may remove content and exclude players who break these rules.

5. AI features (when available)

Coming in a later version

AI drafts and photo checks are suggestions. Organizers must review AI-drafted quests before they start, and they can change any photo check result. Players can ask for a human review. Do not rely on AI output as fact.

6. Organizers’ responsibilities

Organizers invite only people allowed to take part, give them the privacy notice, choose lawful and safe quest content, and handle their own team’s data under our data processing terms.

7. Content and rights

You keep the rights to photos and answers you create. You allow us and your organizer to store and show them inside your quest, only to run the quest and for the retention period in the privacy notice.

8. Availability and changes

We work to keep BeaconStep available but cannot promise it is always free of errors or interruptions. We may change or end features; we tell organizers about important changes in advance.

9. Liability

We are liable without limit for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. Otherwise our liability is limited to foreseeable, typical damage, as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights.

10. Ending

Organizers can delete their account at any time — in the app (coming before the first store release) or by writing to privacy@beaconstep.app. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

11. Law

Romanian law applies, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection in your country of residence.
